Things have been super busy. Apart from preparing for a trip back to Australia in the next few days, I have heaped many things upon myself during this period. Being an absolute glutton for punishment, I have been balancing my parental responsibilities and studying towards the end of the school year here in Italy.
Brilliant as always! Think Victorian Lit was the only unit I failed at uni because like you I found it so restrictive and boring. Professor Joel Dando would be rolling his eyes wherever he is. Safe travels home x
Thanks so much Elsje, happy you are enjoying the newsletter.
Trollope and Eliot I think made me go a little brain dead, the works chosen were all about the Anglican clergy and I really couldn’t get into them. I only enjoyed the Dickens and I’ve never been a fan of Hardy. I had to write a 1,500 word essay this week and it was a struggle. I write at least 1,000 every week for my newsletter and even more for other things, but I couldn’t get back into academic frame of mind. It was torture. I forgot how much I disliked it, I was seriously burnt out after my degree, that’s why I chose to do something more practicle and hands on like broadcasting. I really want to get into podcasting next, for sure.
How much patience did we have to do all of that close reading and analysis?
Thanks Jenny, yes I think my future is definately in doing something more creative with my own voice, it certainly has been an interesting experiment. We do really change a lot through the course of life.
Yes, my son and husband are also making the trip, we always end up going at this time of year as it’s when there are school holidays here, eventhough its winter in Australia.
All of my son’s classmates struggled this year, the first year of liceo especially with maths and physics. It’s a type of high school that prepares you for university so a lot of algebra and geometry, so it’s a bit of a challenge for all of them. He did alright in the end, thank goodness!
Thanks for you comment, happy you are enjoying my newsletter, hopefully will get a chance to write a bit while on holiday too!

Whatever did happen to Joel I wonder …
Well, looks like you have found part of your answer!! Good job!! Forget the literature, embrace the Arts! Yeah!
What about your son while you are in Australia? Will he get to come visit you there? Just curious. PS: maybe, he is not so much into Math. Could be?
